The Local Organizing Committee (LOC)
The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) Tahiti Va’a 2018, was created on 25 June 2015 by the Tahitian Va’a Federation (TVF) and the Government of French Polynesia under the impetus of President M. Edouard FRITCH with a view to The 18th edition of the Va’a World Sprint Championships programmed in Tahiti in 2018 by the International Va’a Federation (IVF).
Shortly after its creation, the LOC intends to organize, in collaboration with the International Va’a Federation (IVF), the Tahitian Va’a Federation (TVF) and the City of Pirae an international long distance race. In November 2015, at a seminar, an important decision was taken by the International Va’a Federation (IVF) and its member countries: to create the first edition of the Va’a – World Distance Championships from 2017 In Tahiti. This project is then carried out by the Tahiti Va’a LOC and takes place from 27 to 30 June 2017 in Taaone Bay in Pirae, through a synergy of forces. Indeed, the success of this event is based on a solid cooperation between public authorities, Polynesian companies and associative, sports and cultural movements.
At this international event, 491 athletes from 33 countries (a record for a sporting event organized by the IVF) traveled to Tahiti to win the title of Va’a Long Distance World Champion. In addition, for the first time in the history of the Va’a World Championships, Africa and Asia were represented. Another innovation brought by the LOC is the setting up of an exhibition race that allowed people with a mental handicap to participate for the first time in an official race of the International Va’a Federation (IVF) .
Today, the Local Organizing Committee is continuing its efforts to make the 18th edition of the Va’a World Sprint Championships in Tahiti a success. It is a new challenge that the team of LOC Tahiti Va’a 2018 and its president Mr. Jean CHICOU are certainly ready to take up!
